September Artist in Residence Jon Gugin

Raised on Vancouver Island, our September Artist in Residence, Jon Gugin has been inspired by our forests and wildlife for as long as he can remember. That connection now shapes his work as a wildlife photographer, illustrator, and charcoal artist.

Using bold composition, dramatic light, and rich texture, Jon creates striking wildlife portraits that capture more than appearance. Each piece reflects the character, presence, and energy of the animals he encounters across the Island.

Throughout September, guests can visit Jon at the Welcome Centre Patio, see his creative process firsthand, and explore artwork inspired by Vancouver Island’s wild spaces.
