Malahat SkyWalk Honored with EcoStar Award for Experiential Tourism | Vancouver Island Activities

We are beyond thrilled to announce that Malahat SkyWalk has been honored with the prestigious EcoStar Award for Experiential Tourism. This recognition highlights our ongoing commitment to offering accessible, engaging, and environmentally responsible experiences on Vancouver Island. While there’s always more to do, we are proud to share the impactful steps we've taken this year to connect people with nature and inspire a greater appreciation for our local environment.

Our Mission: Connecting People with Nature on Vancouver Island
At Malahat SkyWalk, we’ve always believed in the power of nature to inspire and heal. Our mission is simple: to make nature accessible to all and help people form meaningful connections with the natural world. We approach this with a sense of responsibility to the land and its history, as well as a deep respect for the cultural and environmental heritage of Vancouver Island. Since the very beginning, our goal has been to create a space where everyone, no matter their age or ability, can experience the island’s stunning beauty—and we're grateful for the opportunity to continue working towards that vision.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Tourism Victoria, Synergy Foundation and our Incredible Community

We’re incredibly grateful to Tourism Victoria and the Synergy Foundation for recognizing our efforts to make nature more accessible and impactful. As the proud sponsor of the Experiential Tourism category, Tourism Victoria celebrates organizations like ours that lead in sustainable, nature-based tourism and create meaningful environmental and social impacts.

To our amazing visitors and the Vancouver Island community: your enthusiasm and love for this place keep us inspired every day. Thank you for believing in our mission and helping us share the beauty and culture of this incredible island in new and meaningful ways

Highlights of Our Year & Community Impact
Here are just a few of the initiatives that have helped us take small but meaningful steps toward our mission, and the positive effects they’ve had on our guests, community, and environment:

Luke’s Lane – A Fun and Educational Nature Trail
This year, we were excited to introduce Luke’s Lane, an interactive nature trail designed to engage families and children. Through scavenger hunts and fun facts about local wildlife, Luke’s Lane offers a playful way to learn about the island's flora and fauna. We’ve been so pleased to see how many families have embraced this new way to explore nature, and it’s been a joy to see kids get excited about learning in the great outdoors.

Free Shuttle Service from Victoria
Understanding that accessibility is key, we launched a free shuttle service from downtown Victoria to help more people visit Malahat SkyWalk. This initiative has made it easier for thousands of guests to experience the beauty of Vancouver Island, some of whom may not have been able to do so otherwise. We’re grateful for the positive response, as it also contributes to reducing our environmental impact by lowering car trips to our location.

Enhanced Accessibility Upgrades
Ensuring that everyone can enjoy nature is incredibly important to us. That’s why we introduced electric scooters to assist guests with mobility challenges, allowing them to explore the TreeWalk and Spiral Tower comfortably. The feedback has been incredibly encouraging, and we’re thankful to be able to offer these enhancements to make the experience as inclusive as possible.

Environmental Stewardship
We’ve been fortunate to partner with local organizations to plant over 3,000 native trees, including endangered Garry Oaks, and to help remove invasive species from the area. It’s just a small piece of the puzzle, but we're proud to be doing our part in preserving and restoring the local ecosystem. We’ve also expanded our educational signage, so visitors can learn more about the history and sustainability practices of the land they’re exploring. Every step we take is a reflection of our commitment to environmental stewardship, and we’re grateful for the support of our guests and community.

Partnering with The Raptors
Our partnership with The Raptors has allowed us to offer a unique experience for guests to connect with birds of prey. This collaboration has been a meaningful way to raise awareness about these magnificent creatures and their role in our ecosystem. We feel incredibly fortunate to work alongside such knowledgeable partners who help us bring nature education to life.

Community Engagement and Cultural Connection
Operating on the traditional lands of the Malahat Nation is an honor we hold dear. We’re grateful for our partnership, which allows us to share the cultural and ecological knowledge of the Malahat people with our visitors. It’s a partnership rooted in respect and understanding, and we continue to learn from one another as we work together to celebrate the land’s significance. Additionally, by offering discounted tickets for school groups, we’ve been able to inspire thousands of students to become the next generation of environmental stewards.

As we reflect on this recognition, we remain committed to evolving and continuing our efforts to create sustainable, impactful nature experiences. We look forward to welcoming you to Malahat SkyWalk and to offering many more opportunities to connect with the beauty of Vancouver Island in the years ahead.
