Indigenous Culture Takes Centre Stage at Malahat SkyWalk's Four Winds Weekend

MALAHAT, B.C. — On August 22 and 23, Malahat SkyWalk invites guests to experience Four Winds Weekend, a celebration of Indigenous culture, creativity, and connection.
Set against sweeping views of the Saanich Inlet and surrounded by towering Douglas fir and Arbutus trees, Four Winds Weekend transforms Malahat SkyWalk into a vibrant gathering place where visitors are invited to slow down, listen, learn, and connect through Indigenous stories, traditions, and artistic expression.
Throughout the weekend, visitors will experience performances from the Cowichan Tzinquaw Dancers and the Lək̓ʷəŋən Women's Dance Group, whose songs and dances honour generations of cultural knowledge and celebrate the living traditions of their communities. Throughout the site, Indigenous artists and makers from across Vancouver Island will showcase handcrafted beadwork, leatherwork, paintings, carvings, cedar art, textiles, and contemporary Indigenous design, inviting guests to meet the artists, hear the stories behind their work, and support Indigenous-owned businesses.

Featured participants include Indigenous artists Deborah Derrick (Nisgaa Dreams), Jen Emile (Oceanloverjen), Michelle Offutt (Kirakira Beading), Jolene Seymour (Salish Creations), Marie Joe, Korrey Laderoute (Kozy Kokum), Jeannie Chipps, Katie Phillips, Kara Lebold (The Bold Detour), Diane Marshall (Empath Medium), and additional Indigenous artists and makers, each sharing handcrafted works that celebrate Indigenous creativity, entrepreneurship, and cultural expression.
In between performances and cultural experiences, guests are invited to explore everything Malahat SkyWalk has to offer. Wander the 600-metre elevated TreeWalk, climb the accessible Spiral Tower, experience The Overhang—Canada's first enclosed glass cube experience—and discover Luke's Lane, where nature-inspired play encourages visitors of all ages to slow down, explore, and reconnect with the forest.
Four Winds Weekend reflects Malahat SkyWalk's ongoing commitment to creating meaningful opportunities for Indigenous artists, performers, and knowledge keepers to share their talents, stories, and traditions throughout the year. All weekend programming is included with general admission.
